-
WUR Perspectives on the future of Agriculture and Nature (WPAN)
January 1, 2023 - To design the future of agriculture and nature in The Netherlands, future perspectives for the period 2023-2050 are needed. Perspectives to foster the necessary transitions towards sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems in a greener world. -
Quantification of climate impact for breeding and decision support at dairy farms
January 1, 2023 - We develop machine learning models that predict the sensitivity of individual cows to heat stress based on their behaviour. Behavioural sensor data, cow information, and climatic data were collected from farms in the Netherlands and Belgium. By integrating multiple data sources, the models could better support dairy farms' adaptation to climate change. Farmers can utilise this information to differentiate between cows that are susceptible to heat stress and those that can tolerate it, which supports farm management and breeding decisions. -
The effect of dietary protein on health in dairy cows
December 1, 2022 - PhD project by Axel van Ruitenbeek -
Creating resilience in pigs through artificial intelligence
October 15, 2022 - PhD project by Mahsa Mohseni -
Automated broiler phenotyping
April 1, 2022 - The project aims to identify, upscale and implement technologies for automated individual broiler phenotyping to improve the currently recorded and novel phenotypic traits related to health, welfare and performance. Through extensive collaboration with broiler breeding practice and technological partners, we dedicate ourselves to research towards full practical implementation. -
Continuous monitoring of livestock house emissions and indoor concentrations
January 3, 2022 - PhD project Marien Korevaar -
Netherlands East African Dairy Partnership (NEADAP2)
November 1, 2021 - By bringing together relevant dairy actors in East Africa around scalable solutions, NEADAP creates synergy on dairy development. Through collaboration on the key themes of healthy diets, milk quality, extension services, and sustainable farming, NEADAP contributes to safe and nutritious dairy products, employment, and ecologically sound food production. -
Stunning captured wild sea fish for better animal welfare
April 1, 2021 - Due to societal developments, it is important that the fishing industry focuses on sustainable, socially acceptable and valued products and production methods. Attention to animal welfare also fits in with these developments. Injuries caused by killing and processing captured fish on board commercial fishing vessels can be minimised by stunning the animals, rendering them unconscious, prior to killing and processing. -
Functilight: Functional light provision for broilers and layer pullets to promote welfare, health and performance
January 1, 2021 - Light is an important aspect in broiler and layer pullet management, as it affects welfare including health and performance. In Functilight we develop light programs for broiler chickens and laying hens based on the needs of the chickens, promoting natural behaviour. -
Pro-ARIDES project aims at increased resilience and economic development of Sahel region
January 1, 2021 - The ten-year Pro-ARIDES project (2021-2030) is designed to contribute to increased resilience, food security and household incomes for farmers and (agro) pastoralists in the Sudano-Sahelian zone of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. It is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and executed by SNV, CARE-Nederland, Wageningen University & Research and KIT Royal Tropical Institute.
