Innovation centres and facilities
Wageningen Livestock Research has very extensive facilities for research and innovation. We operate a range of experimental farms for both fundamental and applied research, primarily involving farm animals.
(dairy and swine), and one centre especially focusing on environmental issues concerning dairy farming (KTC De Marke). For more fundamental scientific research on ruminants, monogastrics and fish we turn to the departmental research facility Carus in Wageningen.
Dairy Campus
The Dutch dairy chain, fuelled by more than 18,000 dairy farmers, is currently facing a huge challenge: it must realise sustainable development, while simultaneously enhancing and expanding its position in an increasingly global market. If this challenge is to be met, it is essential that all parties in the milk and dairy chains join forces and cooperate.
Agro-innovation centre De Marke
Accurate nutrient management is a prerequisite for further development of dairy farming, particularly in the Netherlands. The amount of milk that can be produced will increasingly be defined by the extent to which farmers succeed to limit nutrient losses. At agro-innovation centre De Marke, innovative measures are designed and tested to minimize nutrient losses while exploring the technical limits of efficient nutrient management.
Research Facility 'Carus'
The primary focus of Carus is to assist researchers and students in fulfilling their obligation to plan and conduct animal research in accordance with the highest scientific, humane, and ethical principles.
