Hi everybody,
This is my new backpack that I got from the WURldexplorers team of Wageningen UR. You can follow my trip abroad on Instagram at #wurldexplorers!!! I’m really excited about going as this will be my first time in Africa! Luckily I’m not alone but sharing this experience with a study mate who is also doing her research in Rwanda.
First time in Africa
We have finally arrived in Rwanda. We are spending the first few days in Kigali (the capital) before we leave for the village where we will be spending the majority of the next 4 months.
Land of a thousand hills!
Yesterday we arrived in Kanyanza where we will be doing our research. We went out on a walk to explore the area and found this amazing view. We live right next to the church (top left corner)!
Changing weather
A big part of our research is walking around the country side interviewing the farmers. It's always more fun when the weather is good.
One of the bigger houses
These are the kids and the house of one of the farmers we interviewed. They were really nice and invited us into their home for the interview. As we are in a very poor region this is actually one of the bigger houses we have seen.
Appreciate the European life!
This is the house of another family we interviewed. This was a very poor family and in the house you can see they live with 7 people.
Muzungus
The children (and the adults) are always interested in us as we are the only muzungus (white people) in the area.
Learning to ride a motor!
Besides walking, the main form of transportation here is motorcycle. So, to truly fit in and be a bit more independent, we are learning to ride!!!!
Community work
Every last Saturday of the month the whole country does community work in the morning. And I really mean the whole country!!!! Even the president.
