Project

Healthy Dutch Caribbean Islands

The aim of this project is to develop a nature-inclusive economy on St Eustatius. This means combining nature restoration, business recovery and the development of a healthy, resilient community through an integrated approach.

Nature is crucial to Dutch Caribbean society. Sustainable nature conservation is necessary to prevent a decline in GDP of 40-70% in the next 10-30 years. The aim of this project is to restore nature, restore economic activity and develop a healthy community by using an integrated approach. The Bolk model for Positive Health and Living Environment will be complemented by the WEcR approach for exploring and developing business models aimed at creating self-sustaining systems. This will be done in an interactive way, using a 'canvas' approach where all the interrelated building blocks of a business model are described in one overview.

New business models and financing opportunities will be jointly explored and developed with the stakeholders involved, whether private, public, NGOs or linked to people's communities. The results will be resilient and sustainable business models, with strong links to conservation.
