Promotion of model quality and guidelines / labels
The project aims to optimize the model quality self-assessment form and audit process and enlarge the modelling community with more auditors and data scientists.
The previous Wageningen Modelling Group project has developed practical tools to guide our model quality management in WUR. These tools include model quality self-assessment questionnaire, model audit process, Wageningen Model Gallery, Good Modelling Practice wiki page, and model value creation guidelines. Besides the tools, a model community has been formed over the last a few years with modelers, model stewards, institute model auditors, etc. Yearly Wageningen Modelling Workshop has been successfully organized since 2019.
Our current challenge is applying these quality standards within the operational practice of model development within WR and embedding the process of model quality assurance within the operational cycle of WR. Urgently WR needs the overview of our models and their quality. To fulfill these challenges, we propose 1) a Wageningen Modelling Unit supported by a base funding (proposed separately), and 2) a KB project for development (proposed in this project plan).
