Gut health in animals

About this expertise
In short- Microbiome analysis
- Microbe-host interaction
- Next generation omics and bioinformatics
- In vitro and in vivo models for animal gut health
- Translating microbiome insights into practice
Gut health is at the heart of animal resilience, performance, and welfare. We combine microbiology, immunology and data science to explore the complex relationships between the microbiome, pathogens and the host. Our work delivers microbial strategies that strengthen resilience, promote animal health and support sustainable livestock systems.
A healthy gut is the foundation of animal health and wellbeing. The gut microbiome plays a key role in digestion, immunity, and protection against pathogens. By integrating microbiology, immunology and bioinformatics, we reveal how microbial communities interact with the host and influence disease resistance.
Our expertise ranges from microbiome profiling and functional analyses to the development of nutritional and microbial interventions – including feed additives, probiotics and prebiotics. Using advanced omics and data-driven approaches, we identify biomarkers of gut health and translate insights into practical strategies for farmers, veterinarians and the animal feed industry.
Through this research, we contribute to reducing antibiotic use, improving animal welfare and fostering resilient and sustainable food production systems.
