Introduction

Our Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQ) tool helps researchers to develop web-based food questionnaires to assess habitual dietary intake of participants. These questionnaires can be automatically administered and processed.

About the FFQ-tool

Researchers often need a reliable way to rank or classify participants based on their habitual food and nutrient intake. The FFQ-tool supports this need by enabling the development and use of web-based Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQs), suitable for observational studies, cohorts and intervention research.

The tool offers a range of validated, ready-to-use FFQs, including comprehensive questionnaires for adults, children and Dutch cohort studies. When a standard FFQ does not fit the research question or population, researchers can develop a tailored FFQ using a validated methodology based on large dietary surveys. Foods are selected for their contribution to nutrient intake and their ability to distinguish between individuals.

FFQs are distributed digitally by the researcher and completed through a secure web interface. After data collection, our dietitians process the data into CSV files with daily intake values for foods, energy and nutrients. Optional data checks identify potential over- or underreporting.
