IWC advisering
Nederland is lid van de IWC omdat de overheid invloed wil hebben op het internationale beleid en beheer van walvisachtigen. In de IWC neemt Nederland een beschermingsgezinde positie in.
De instrumenten voor Nederland om het internationale beleid mede te sturen is Nederlandse deelname aan het Wetenschappelijke Committee, waar het wetenschappelijk advies inzake alle walvissoorten wordt opgesteld, en daarnaast de inbreng van Nederland in de Commissie vergadering.
