Biomonitoring
Biomonitoring is het meten van toxische stoffen, of afgeleiden daarvan (biomarkers), in biologische materialen zoals urine, bloed, moedermelk of haar. WFSR werkt hieraan om blootstelling van mensen aan toxische stoffen via voeding en andere routes vast te stellen. Biomonitoringsdata kunnen worden gebruikt bij risicobeoordeling en om de effectiviteit na te gaan van maatregelen om blootstelling van mensen aan bepaalde stoffen te beperken.
Het onderzoek richt zich met name op de vaststelling van de relatie tussen blootstelling aan een bepaalde stof via voeding en de concentratie biomarker in bijvoorbeeld urine. Voor veel stoffen is deze relatie nog niet goed bekend. Het onderzoek omvat biomarker discovery en analyse, en vergelijking van gehalten in geconsumeerde voeding en de concentratie biomarker in urine of alternatieven materialen.
