This lunch seminar introduces the FAIR principles for making your software Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Lunch will be provided!

Benefits of FAIR software design

Many researchers at WUR write code as part of their work, whether that's a few analysis scripts or a larger tool used across multiple projects. Writing that code with sharing in mind has real benefits; others can find and cite your work, reviewers and collaborators can check it, and you can return to it months later without starting from scratch. This seminar shows how to get there by following the FAIR principles: making your software Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

Contents

The session will cover:

  • Where to find resources: training, guides, communities, and support available to researchers, both at WUR and more widely.
  • Best practices: practical habits such as version control, documentation, licensing, managing dependencies and making your code citable.
  • Common pitfalls: problems that often make research code hard to reuse or reproduce, and how to avoid them early.

Who is this for?

The seminar is open to WUR researchers at any career stage who write code or expect to, including those new to the idea of FAIR software.
