Finish the year strong!

The end of the academic year is in sight! Those final assignments, exams, and deadlines can feel overwhelming. Library employee Maartje shares some study tips to finish the year strong. You can also find a curated selection of books on studying effectively and with less stress.
Longer isn’t always better
Focus on studying more intensively rather than extending your study time. Active studying means engaging with the material, for example, by asking yourself questions while you read, summarising key points, or explaining the content aloud in your own words.
Take regular small breaks
Most people can only concentrate for about 45 minutes at a time, so it helps to pause briefly after each study session to recharge.
Reward yourself
Give yourself something to look forward to after a study session: a walk outside, a snack, a small happy dance to your favourite song, or some time with friends. Small rewards can boost your motivation and make studying feel more manageable.
Change your scenery
Switching up your study environment can boost your focus. A different setting sometimes works wonders for your morale. You can do a study session in a café in town, or outside in a park. Sometimes it helps to study together with friends and take breaks together.
Plan ahead
Create a realistic study schedule and set small & achievable goals for each session. Knowing what you need to accomplish will help you to stay focused and avoid stress.
Note that most of these techniques are matters of preference, so try things out and find something that suits you best!
