Use the e-learning modules developed by the Library for self-study or to refresh your information literacy skills.

The Library has created e-learning modules. Choose below between basic modules about information literacy and modules about specific databases.

The e-learning modules work best on the computer. Some modules can also be done on other devices (indicated at the begining of the module).

Basic modules

Module 1 - Locate and access the information you need

You have a list of one or more references and you want to obtain the full text of these items to read them. In module 1, you will learn how to recognize various types of information sources, how to search for publications and how to access them.

Module 2 - Finding information for your research project

You are starting a research project and need to find information on a topic. In module 2, you will learn different strategies to find information, how to choose relevant databases, and how to translate your research question into a database query.

Module - Evaluating information

How do you use information in a professional and scientific way? In this module, you will learn how to evaluate the quality of information.

Module - Citing and referencing

In this module, you will learn how to avoid plagiarism and how to cite and reference sources correctly.

Module - Copyright basic

During your studies at WUR, you will be confronted with copyright law. In this module, you will learn the basics of Dutch copyright law.

Module - Finding research data

Sometimes you need data to answer your research question. In this module, you will learn where and how to look for data online, and how to reference the data you reuse.

Database modules

Module Scopus

Scopus is a bibliographic database in which you can find records of scientific articles, reviews and books on all kinds of scientific topics. In this module, some of the specific features of this database and its search system are shown.

Module SciFinder

SciFinder is a database of chemical literature. In this module, you will learn what kind of information is covered by SciFinder, how to register for SciFinder, and how to search in SciFinder by topic or by chemical structure.

Module PubMed

PubMed is a database on biomedicine, health and life sciences. In this module, you will learn how PubMed adapts and enhances your search when you execute a simple search, as well as how to use the MeSH database and field tags.
